Famous for its tasty and hearty sandwiches made with fresh produce in New York City.

Defonte's is to the sandwich what Ladurée is to the macaroon. For almost a century, Les Defonte, descendants of Italian immigrants, have been offering exceptional charcuterie and fresh vegetables in half baguettes. The portions are gigantic. The Nicky Special, their most famous sandwich, is a combination of ham, salami, cured ham, grilled eggplant, provolone, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes and vegetables marinated in a spicy sauce. As for the restaurant, or rather sandwich shop, itself, it has remained in its original state.
