Bucolic park hosting a Celebrate Brooklyn concert and cultural event

Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvet Vaux, after their success with Central Park, were able to create a corner of paradise for the inhabitants of Brooklyn. Where the city had imposed a very strict framework on them for Central Park, the architects were able to let their imagination run free for Prospect Park. This 213-hectare jewel in the heart of Brooklyn includes a 24-hectare lake, a zoo and two waterfalls. It's a small green universe for a bucolic park that it would be a shame to miss between the Botanical Garden and the Museum of Art. But it's worth a visit on its own and we strongly advise you to go there to attend one of the many concerts and cultural events of the Celebrate Brooklyn festival in summer. We recommend the entrance to Grand Army Plaza, presided over by the Soldier's and Sailor's Memorial Arch (1892), a tribute to Vietnam veterans. Then follow the Meadowport Arch to the Long Meadow, circling the park, for an hour's walk. Inside the park, visit Litchfield Villa, on the west side of the park, an Italianate mansion from 1857. The Quaker Cemetery, where Montgomery Clift is buried, the 1906 Fine Arts building, the 1912 carousel, with its famous white horses that were once part of one of the Coney Island rides (open from April to October). Also a museum, the Lefferts Historic House Museum, an old Dutch farmhouse from 1783, which is currently undergoing renovations but can still be admired from the outside.
