Great museum to visit in New York exhibiting many collections of artists' works, paintings and sculptures
One of New York's largest museums offers the public a wide range of collections, from ancient Egyptian relics to contemporary American works. The museum is housed in a beautiful Beaux-Arts style building. The tour begins with art from the Pacific Islands, the Americas and a fine collection of African art. On the second floor are collections of Islamic, Indian and South Asian art, as well as Japanese, Chinese and Korean art. The third floor features one of the finest collections of Egyptian art in the world. Another floor is devoted to decorative arts and furnishings, with reconstructions of American home interiors from various periods in history. The fourth floor is dedicated to paintings and sculptures from the 18th century to the present, with a collection of works by American artists (notably O'Keeffe and Stuart). An entire room displays some sixty works by Rodin, and a reconstructed pavilion, a classic Brooklyn house from the 17th century. The Impressionist section features works by Degas, Cézanne, Monet and Matisse. If the quality of the permanent exhibitions is exceptional, the temporary exhibitions have nothing to envy them: in 2019 and 2020, the exhibition JR: Chronicles, for example, highlighted the most beautiful collage works of the French artist. This museum, unfortunately too often neglected by visitors who go more easily to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is really worth a visit.
