Zoological park offering an interesting visit in summer to see more than 6,000 animals, including some rare species.
Founded in 1889, this zoo is one of the largest on the planet. Its size has enabled it to let its animals roam free. Covering 170 hectares of woodland, it is home to over 6,000 animals of some 650 species and subspecies. For large animals such as bears, tigers and giraffes, there are no cages, but rather landscaped areas close to their natural habitat. The zoo is home to many rare species, most of them endangered, such as Siberian tigers, Asian elephants and Chinese alligators. The park is divided into several areas corresponding to geographical zones. The Wild Asia Complex is inhabited by wild animals from Asia. A recreation of the Himalayan mountain environment is home to the rare snow leopard or white leopard and the red panda. The Congo Gorilla Forest is particularly impressive. More than 400 animals of 55 species from tropical forests live freely in this 14.5-hectare area, reproducing their natural environment. A visit to the zoo is more interesting in summer, as many species are sheltered in winter. However, you'll need to come early on weekdays to enjoy the peace and quiet. Over two million visitors pass through the zoo every year, either on the safari train or on the Wild Asia Monorail, the best way to get around. Discounts on Wednesdays (online purchase).
