DEIR SAMAAN
Go there and contact
The village of Deir Samaan, which is indispensable to the visit of the monastery, will give an excellent idea of a dead City to those who do not have time to explore others. It is located at the foot of the monastery, slightly to the southwest, and is accessible by a road that leaves left, just before the climb to the monastery.
On the hill side, the first group of monuments that one encounters on the right is the pandocheïon, i. e. the main shelter of the pilgrims. Later, we see a circle of the monumental arch marking the beginning of the processionnelle path that led the pilgrims to the monastery.
On the other side of the road, the ruins of a church whose tower and facade are well preserved are distinguished in the north. Nearby, the small building would be a andron.
You have to walk through the streets of the village now inhabited to note, here and there, stone remplois, even whole walls.
In the west there are two monasteries, one of which has a remarkably preserved chapel.
