REMAINS OF LAODICEE

There are very few vestiges of flourishing seleucid, Roman, Byzantine and cross-croisée cities. Only the imposing tétrapyle (ask the «slébé»), raised in the th century to the south of the city, deserves a visit (at the end of Abdel Kader al-Jazaïry Street). Four massive columns still bear a dome miraculously spared by earthquakes. An antique colonnade trace remains at the end of the parallel street, Yarmouk Street. The ancient path (cardo maximus) was very close. The four disappointing columns of Joumourié Square would come from a temple dedicated to the God Adonis.
