Built in 1883, Teatro José Jacinto Milanés - simply called the Milanés Theatre - is a handsome wooden building perfectly in keeping with the neoclassical style of the period. It is one of the oldest theaters in Latin America. Its 500-seat capacity and plans inspired by the Matanzas theater make it one of the most elegant in the country. Thanks to restoration work (carried out in 2006), the theater's structure has been well preserved.
