MESON DE LA PLAZA
This restaurant - La Maison de la Place (in French) - opened in the square of the Paroquial Mayor church (parque Honorato Castillo) occupies an old post office. It has a rustic setting and large, friendly tables, with a group of musicians who come to play every lunchtime. The criolla (Creole) cuisine is quite substantial. As an appetizer, try the audacious garbanzo mesonero, a soup with bacon and chorizo served in a ceramic pot (2 €). The waiter, Dixan, who has been working here almost forever, is very welcoming.
