CATEDRAL SAN ISIDORO
This three-aisled church dating from 1730 has recently been restored. Note the beauty of the cedar wood ceiling and the sobriety of the interior. Certainly one of the best preserved places of worship in the country. It was the initial nucleus of the city at the time of its foundation, and in 1868 it was occupied by General Julio Grave de Peralta, leader of the Independents in the region. In 1895, the Spanish army, still in the area, requisitioned the space to build its military hospital. A century later, John Paul II decided to consecrate the church as a cathedral.
