The hill, topped by a cross since 1790, attracts the inhabitants of Holguin every May 3rd for a celebration that is both sacred and profane. After the mass, music, dances and delicious food around a grilled pig are on the program. The view of the city from the top is absolutely superb and not to be missed. It was here that Pope Francis came to celebrate a mass in Holguín on September 21, 2015 and blessed the city in the presence of Raúl Castro. This is one of the three places where he celebrated a mass in Cuba during his official visit to the country in 2015.
