Frank País, organizer of the July 26th Movement in the province, led the revolutionary uprising of November 30, 1956, in support of the Granma landing originally scheduled for the Oriente coast. Appointed coordinator of the guerrilla movement in the plain, he also provided logistical support for the guerrillas in the sierra. Arrested by Batista's police, he was assassinated on July 30, 1957. He lived in this house until the age of 5.
