This colonial square, named after the Father of the Homeland, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (his statue stands in the center of the square), is a tourist hotspot. A meeting place for street vendors, musicians, strollers, schoolchildren and jineteros and jineteras alike, it is home to some of Santiago's major institutions. Surrounding it are the town hall, the cathedral, the old San Carlos club, the house of Adelantado Diego Vélasquez, founder of the city, the town hall and the Casagranda hotel.

Petite place mais située au cœur de la ville, elle est donc stratégique et permet d'échanger et d'observer la vie des Cubains
