The Plaza de Dolores is an esplanade that used to house a market. It owes its name to the church Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. Times have changed and today the youth has taken over the place. Nowadays, this square has become a well known gay meeting place. In the center of the square, you can appreciate the statue of Francisco Vicente Aguilera, a fighter for Cuban independence in the first war of the 19th century. A place of public sociability that one will cross for sure during a walk in the city.
