Built on Miel Bay, at the entrance to the city, the fort commanded Baracoa's maritime and land access. Fully restored, it now houses the Municipal Museum. Note the rooms devoted to the Indian era. Linger also over the registers of immigrants, with a long list of Frenchmen who arrived from Haiti in the late 18th century. Finally, note the samples of the 120 species of trees that provide precious wood for local craftsmen and sculptors.
