VISITE DU SANCTUAIRE
Most visitors come to the island for half a day, which gives them the opportunity to attend the 11am or 2.30pm feeding. This lasts half an hour, during which you can observe and photograph our closest cousins at close quarters (but behind a barrier). It is preceded by a presentation of the center and the various issues involved in preserving the species. Motorboats leave the landing stage near the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre at 9 a.m. and 12.45 p.m. for a trip of around 45 minutes. For those who don't want to spend too much, you can spend the night on the island in a large safari tent overlooking the lake. In return, you'll be able to attend two feeding sessions with the monkeys, as well as their dinner and breakfast. What's more, you'll be able to observe the island's 120 bird species, visit a fishing village and enjoy the sunset. For an even more intense encounter with the chimpanzees, you can join the team of caretakers for a day and take part in the various activities (feeding, medical check-ups, etc.). Any agency with which you have organized your stay should be able to contact the Ngamba Island booking office, located in Entebbe (Plot 1, Bank Close). Expect high costs, especially if you're a small group. Volunteer programs are also offered by the Chimpanzee Trust.
