KIWA HERITAGE HOT SPRINGS
What could be better than 42.5°C water to relax in after a wild ride up the Rwenzori? Eureka, because of its position in the Rift Valley, Kasese has just what you need! Opened to the public in 2013, this thermal spring is located between the road leading to Kilembe and the impetuous Nyamwamba River, which doesn't hesitate to leave its bed and wreak havoc. On site, you'll find rustic changing rooms, swings and a small garden, where local artists perform from time to time, surrounding the spring, which has been fitted out to meet the needs of seasoned spa-goers and neophytes alike (dear bazungu friends, expect to see your skin turn crimson). You can enjoy the therapeutic virtues of the hot springs while sipping a cool drink either in a hammock, or slouching on the sandy field bordering the aforementioned watercourse. In addition to a volleyball court and a fishpond, there's also a tiny museum dedicated to Konzo culture. If you'd like to take a dip, listen to traditional music (flute, xylophone and drums) and try some local dishes (such as bread made from cassava flour), head for this spring located two kilometers north-west of the town center. Very friendly welcome.
