BUREAU DE L'UGANDA WILDLIFE AUTHORITY
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) office is the tourism office for Rwenzori National Park. UWA is the government agency responsible for wildlife management and protection in Uganda. They manage 10 national parks, including Rwenzori Mountains National Park, as well as 12 wildlife reserves, 5 community wildlife management areas and 13 wildlife sanctuaries. These parks offer spectacular Rift Valley and rainforest landscapes, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. UWA offers various experiences, such as mountain gorilla tracking, with 18 gorilla families habituated for tourism purposes, and chimpanzee tracking, with around 1,500 individuals in Kibale National Park. They also offer the experience of the Batwa, the ancient inhabitants of the forest, who survived by hunting and collecting plants and fruits in the forest. UWA implements a variety of conservation strategies, including community participation in wildlife management, revenue sharing, collaborative management, problem animal management, wildlife use rights and conservation education.
