The house tents are all separated from each other, it is really very quiet. The bathroom is open, so it's possible that your toothbrush is no longer where it was when you return from the game drive. Because of the wild animals, you are picked up from the tent in the dark and brought back again.
The pool area invites you to linger, where, like in the restaurant, there is also WiFi and options for charging cameras and telephones. The dining area is open and dinner and breakfast are delicious. In the evening there is always a menu, one with meat and one vegetarian.
We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back!
Some of the best food we had at any of the lodges we stayed in.
Excellent location just outside the park.
Great pool to relax in.
- Murchison River Lodge is located on the Nile river, very close to the park's entrance. The garden and the views from the riverside tents, the bar and dining area, the observation tower and the pool are absolutely stunning and unforgettable. (Who would ever forget the wonderful show of having a hippo grazing at night just outside one's tent?)
- The hotel is very well designed and decorated. I loved the dining area and the pool area in particular.
- The tents by the river were very comfortable, well equipped and cozy. They even had hot shower, amazingly large mosquito nets, and bedside lamps and plugs. (One small detail though: I would have loved to get some shampoo in the bathroom, in addition to shower gel.)
- Most of the staff were kind and helpful.
Disadvantages:
- The meals we had as part of the full board package rarely filled us. We were very often still hungry after lunch especially, given the tiny wraps or the very small quantities of salad provided to us for instance. And yet, every time we asked the staff for a bit more bread, a bit more salad, a few more slices of tomatoes, etc. we got the impression that we were asking for the moon...
- WiFi is only available by the pool, which means that you can't even use the internet in the main bar/restaurant area.
These two elements made us think that the cost of stay in one of the tents was overpriced...
