This Greek Orthodox monastery was founded around 1540 by the Patriarch of Constantinople, Metrophane. This building also houses the Greek Orthodox Theological School of Chalkı (now Heybeliada). Within this place is still one of the most important libraries of the Orthodox world. Several works date back to the very time of its foundation. Many copies have been repatriated to Istanbul, but the school library has a fine collection.
