CHIESA SANTA CATERINA VERGINE E MARTIRE
Beautiful example of baroque architecture in Palermo with a two-level façade decorated with a portal of the Gagini school
This church is a fine example of Baroque architecture in Palermo. It has an elegant two-storey facade with a portal of the Gagini school. It was built in the 16th century and the interior was enriched in the 18th century with marquetry ornaments with marble reliefs, statues and frescoes. On the altar of the right transept, richly decorated, stands St. Catherine sculpted by Antonello Gagini in 1534. On the right side there is a relief depicting the shipwreck of Jonah.
