LA CUBA SOTTANA
Resting pavilion of Arab-Norman style built by the Norman kings, one of the original Fatimid jewels of the old royal park
This resting pavilion of Arab-Norman style built by the Norman kings is one of the jewels of Fatimid origin of the former royal park of Geonardo. And nothing to do with the island of Cuba. This building takes its name from the Arabic qubat which means vault. Erected in 1180, it was part of the grandiose park imagined by King William II. The exterior wall is decorated with a frieze of blind arches, topped with an Arabic inscription in memory of its foundation. Not far away, the Cubula, a small cubic pavilion topped by a red dome, is also located in the park.
