Former hunting and fishing reserve created in 1799 on the initiative of the Bourbon king Frederic II
This ancient hunting and fishing reserve, created in 1799 on the initiative of the Bourbon King Frederick III, is based on the slopes of Mount Pellegrino and covers 400 hectares. It is the largest green space in the city, its "lung". It is part of the Monte Pellegrino nature reserve. It is a popular walking area with small Chinese palaces, alleys and fountains. Nearby there is the vast Exhibition Centre, where the important Mediterranean fair takes place, and the Verdura Theatre, the summer version of the Teatro Massimo.
