The imposing Palazzo Abatellis, built in 1490 by Matteo Cavalieri with its beautiful Gothic forms with Renaissance and Catalan influences, is the seat of the Regional Gallery of Sicily. Its important collection from the Middle Ages to the 17th century includes the famous 15th century fresco of the Triumph of Death in Palazzo Sclafani, a bust of Eleanor of Aragon by Francesco Laurana, and works by the Sicilian sculptor Gagini, including a beautiful Madonna and Child, as well as Sicilian paintings from the 12th to 16th centuries, including the Madonna of the Annunciation by Antonello da Messina.
