CIDMA - ANTI-MAFIA MUSEUM
Remarkable museum showing the crimes committed by the Cosa Nostra and also tracing the fight against the octopus
This remarkable museum shows the crimes committed by the Cosa Nostra, but also traces the history of the fight against "the Octopus" embodied in particular by Judges Falcone and Borsellino, both assassinated in 1992. As soon as you enter, you are struck by the sign "No mafia" and by the red wall that displays Judge Falcone's quote: "You must do your duty no matter what the sacrifice, because that is the essence of human dignity". An admirable undertaking in a city known for its mafiosi and a visit to Corleone is a must.
The first room, "the file room", houses the duplicate documents of the major trials of 1986-1987. They testify to the significant work of the judges who broke the law of silence, at the cost of their lives.
In the second room, "the room of messages", are exposed the black and white photos of the photo-reporter Laetizia Battaglia, of crimes committed by the mafia. Thanks to the explanations of the guide, we understand the messages that the mafiosi wanted to convey in the scenography of the murders. Poignant.
"The room of pain" exposes the photos of Shobha, the daughter of Laetizia Battaglia. We see the pain of those who have lost a loved one and the devastation caused by "the Octopus".
Finally, in the room Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, named after the general assassinated in 1982. You can see the photos of the main sponsors and a paper tree on which children have written anti-mafia messages.
