CASTELLO DI VENERE
Castle still in good condition, built on the remains of the temple of Aphrodite in Erice
The castle of Venere (12th century), Roman, Arab then rebuilt during the Norman domination, is built on the remains of the temple of Aphrodite built by the Elymies. It is still in good condition, especially the keep, which bears a crown of battlements in swallow tails. Note the coat of arms of the Habsburgs of Spain. It used to be accessed by a drawbridge. Climbing up, one arrives at the English style Baglio garden, created in the 19th century by Agostino Pepoli, dominated by medieval towers and a Moorish turret. Superb view of the Egades Islands.

Un petit village fortifié au sommet de la montagne qui en vaut vraiment le coup d'oeil, de jour ou de nuit (les deux c'est mieux !)
