CARMINE CONVENT
The oldest building of the former Carmelite convent founded in 1155 by religious returning from Mount Carmel in Palestine
The building of the former Carmelite convent, the oldest in Marsala, was founded in 1155 by religious people returning from Mount Carmel in Palestine. The cloister was built later in the 18th century. It has four arcades on each side. Today it houses the Foundation of Modern and Contemporary Art of Sicily. It is a far from uninteresting place. There is an important collection of paintings and sculptures, mainly by local artists, which are well displayed in an impressive historical setting.
