The ancient town of Agrigento is one of the 20 must-sees in Sicily, not least for the wealth of history revealed on its archaeological site. The Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to some remarkably well-preserved Greco-Roman temples .
Among them is the Temple of Concord, erected in 340 BC, whose trompe-l'oeil fluted columns are a marvel to behold. Nearby, the Temple of Juno dominates the valley with its 25 intact columns: a rarity! Your visit then takes you to the Sanctuary of the Chthonic Divinities, dedicated to Demeter and Persephone, whose large circular altar and sacred well invite contemplation. Colonized by the Greeks, its name comes directly from the town of Minoa (Eraclea, a reference to Heracles). 8. Visit the Duomo of Agrigento, a historic cathedral
Agrigento's cathedral, dedicated to San Gerlando, stands on a rocky outcrop. With its beautiful yellow-orange facade, you can't miss it! Built in the XIᵉ century by the Normans, it was rebuilt in the XIVᵉ century, then restored in 1966 after an earthquake. You'll discover a richly decorated interior, which offers a stunning contrast to the more austere exterior: wooden ceiling, fine carvings, marble statues, etc. Take advantage of your visit to discover the Mudia diocesan museum, located in the episcopal palace. Among other liturgical treasures, you can admire medieval reliquaries, as well as a beautiful statue of San Gerlando.

Remember, we've already mentioned Realmonte for the beauty of its Scala dei Turchi. Stick around, because nature has many more treasures to reveal. For example, you'll find some of Sicily's finest beaches. The most unusual of these is the beach below the Scala dei Turchi, where the surrounding scenery is simply breathtaking. A visit to Realmonte also means immersing yourself in its historical past. A Roman villa, for example, was unearthed during an archaeological dig. Other must-sees include the salt mine, the cathedral and theatrical performances.
