SCALA DEI TURCHI
One of the 7 wonders of Sicily with white chalk cliffs.
One of Sicily's seven wonders! You won't be alone in discovering the site, so be sure to reserve your entrance ticket. It's a geological peculiarity of the utmost beauty. Here, the sea and erosion have rolled the chalk cliffs into staircases of dazzling whiteness. The contrast between the turquoise of the sea and the whiteness of the rock is breathtaking. It's a true paradise. Locals flock here regularly for family picnics or to try their hand at the clay masks available on site. For the record, its name dates back to the Saracen pirates they called Turks (but who were actually Arabs). They found here a shelter from the wind and a place to board.
To get there, leave your car in one of the paying parking lots between the beaches of Lido Rossello and Punta Grande. To reach the beach with its panoramic restaurants facing the Scala dei Turchi, take a small staircase that drops 500 metres from the cliff. Please note that in 2023, access to the steps was forbidden and protected by a barrier. Since 2024, access has been possible, but a ticket must be reserved and paid for. A group of 20 people is allowed every 30 minutes. The site is only open from 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.
Tip: another small beach 10 minutes from this one also has chalk cliffs, but it's much less frequented by tourists: Punta Bianca. Access by car is rather tortuous, but it's just as beautiful and much quieter.
