PALAZZO BENEVENTANO
Baroque-style palace with an exhibition of maps and sketches of Syracuse.
This 4th century palace was the seat of the Queen's Chamber, the Senate and then owned by the Borgia family. It was bought by the Beneventano family in 1778 and redesigned by the architect Luciano Ali in a baroque style that heralded neoclassicism. The façade features an elegant portal flanked by twin columns and the splendid inner courtyard decorated with a carpet of black and white stones, the monumental main staircase and the main hall decorated with marble, stuccoes and frescoes. An exhibition traces Syracuse with maps and sketches from 1480 to the present day.
