ABBAZIA DI SANTO SPIRITO
Abbey with remarkable Norman chevet and frescoes in Caltanissetta.
It was built by the Norman king Roger I of Sicily in 1153. The place is worth a visit, if only for its exceptional Norman chevet with three apses, and its 14th and 15th century frescoes, whose hieratic characters rest somewhat from an eventful baroque. In the region, this abbey is especially famous for the monks who invented the recipe for the liqueur "amaro averna", a slightly bitter herbal elixir known throughout the world. It is possible to witness the making of these liqueurs. For more information, please call us.
