The feast of the patron saint of Caltagirone, San Giacomo, is a reason to visit this beautiful town. The highlight is the illumination of the famous staircase decorated with ceramics (Scala del Monte), using oil lamps. This is one of the most famous celebrations in Sicily. The architect of Syracuse, Bonajuto, imagined in 1785 the illumination of the famous 150 steps. Then ingenious procedures followed to light the oil lamps. The preparations begin a month in advance. A must see!
