CHIESA DI SAN NICOLÒ
A remarkable church, the largest in Silicia, with a beautiful view of Catania.
It's the largest church in Sicily. Its author, a specialist in great ideas without sequels, did not finish its façade, which gives it a rather original look, with its gigantic truncated columns. The vast interior is decorated only with altar paintings and the richly carved stalls of the choir. Next to the main portal, a staircase of 130 steps leads to the roof of the church and the drum of the dome (for the bravest, 65 more steps). From the top: magnificent views of Catania, the mountains of Calabria and Mount Etna.
