PUERTA UZEDA
A remarkable door closing the via Etna and opening on the port area in Catania.
Closing off via Etnea, the Uzeda Gate dates from the 17th century and is named after the viceroy who commissioned the Duke of Camastra to rebuild the city. It overlooks the Seminario dei Chierici, under which the Achilee Baths were found. Inside, formed by a vast square hall, the vaults bear rich stucco decorations. Nearby there is the Amenano fountain (1867), on the ancient Amenano river. The Uzeda gate opens onto the port district. Every morning there is the pescheria, one of the most picturesque fish markets in Sicily
