REGIONAL MUSEUM
Visiting this museum, you can admire Greek and Roman sculptures and terracotta objects
The museum alone justifies a visit to Messina by the richness of its collections. Admire the Polyptych of St. Gregory, by Messina's most famous citizen, Antonello da Messina, the two superb Caravaggio paintings, The Adoration of the Shepherds and The Resurrection of Lazarus, which he painted in Messina between 1608 and 1609. There is also a beautiful 15th century Madonna and Child by Francesco Laurana. Flemish painters are present, with a Life of St. John the Baptist by Jan de Beer. There are also Greek and Roman sculptures and terracotta objects.
