SHRINE OF THE BLACK VIRGIN
A sanctuary containing a statue of a black Virgin from Byzantium made of cedar from Lebanon
Perched on its promontory at an altitude of 270 m and visible from afar, this sanctuary is a popular place of pilgrimage. Recently built (in the 1950s), the pretty basilica houses the ancient sanctuary, which itself contains a statue of a black Madonna from Byzantium made of cedar from Lebanon, encased in a richly decorated shrine. The walls are covered with paintings, and the apse tells the story of the shrine and the legends linked to the Black Madonna.
