This cathedral was built in 1094, during the reign of Count Roger, as a Benedictine convent. Patti is a very old diocese in Italy. It contains the Renaissance marble tomb of Adelasia, mother of Roger, who died in Patti in 1181. There is a 16th century painting on wood of the Madonna by Antonello da Saliba, as well as 18th century works. The diocesan museum, presents beautiful works of art, especially paintings. Note the gothic style portal. The white marble contrasts with the black basalt lava stones.
