THE FIUMARA D'ARTE
La Fiumara d'Arte is an exhibition of rather monumental and unexpected open-air sculptures, installed along a road in the countryside surrounding Castel di Tusa. Along the detours of an hour-long itinerary, between Castel di Tusa and Castel di Lucio, are scattered works of contemporary art, spectacular columns, reinterpreted walls, and modern sculptures that stand out against a backdrop of azure sky. The map can be downloaded from the website of the host museum Atelier Sul Mare, the originator of the project, or rather its creator: Antonio Presti
A must-see among the 9 works that punctuate this route: il Parco di Sculture, la Vicenda Giudiziaria, la Finestra sul Mare, l'Energia Mediterranea and il Rito della Luce. The latter is a metal pyramid at the top of a hill which, on the summer solstice on 21 June, lets light pass through its centre (free to visit on that day).
These untimely initiatives have brought Antonio Presti into numerous run-ins with the local authorities and the courts, from which he has emerged victorious each time. Every year, in Pettineo, an old village nestled on the heights of the Nebrodi mountains, the Fiumara organizes an event that mobilizes artists and villagers. Many painters are invited to paint a huge canvas of more than a kilometre in length, spread out in the streets of the village. This original event is the occasion of libations. There is also a hotel, bar and restaurant. An amazing place.
