MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO
Museum exhibiting an exceptional collection of comedy masks and pieces of underwater archaeology
The museum, housed in the former episcopal palace and prisons of Lipari Castle, is one of the most interesting in Sicily. It contains a very rich collection divided into 26 rooms, presenting the evolution of the islands, from the beginning of the Palaeolithic to the year 1000, passing through the Greco-Roman period. There are amphorae, sarcophagi, richly decorated ceramics... An exceptional collection of 250 comedy masks, pieces of underwater archaeology (treasures of ships sunk off Lipari) and a space devoted to geology and vulcanology.
