French migrant Guillaume Tujague opened his bar-restaurant in 1856. Its columns and the mirror behind the bartender predate even that, having been imported from Paris; the cypress bar is said to be the oldest in the United States. The tables at Tujague's first welcomed dockers and convicts, before a few presidents of the last century, including de Gaulle. Cajun-inspired (spices, stir-fried vegetables and fish), this brasserie offers rich, hearty and often refined dishes. Don't hesitate to try the shrimp remoulade or the gumbo.

J'étais chez Tujague à La Nouvelle-Orléan. Un petit coup de cœur pour leur rémoulades de crevettes. Joliment présentés. Très savoureux.
