Nice enough place with friendly and helpful staff. No working wifi to be found unfortunately. It's a bit remote from the hip and happening center but if you don't wanna walk there's an easy connection by streetcar. All considered it's what you might expect from a youth hostel, the private rooms are recommendable if you don't expect too much fancy stuff. There's a swimming pool, which is pretty cool if that's your thing.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating! The hostel is very clean and in a good neighborhood and close to the trolly too. The staff gave some great suggestions for places to eat and check out. I’m glad I found India Hostel!!

India House is such a cool place to stay. The backyard is so social and the staff- especially Lee , is super helpful. Will come back!

I recommend if you're staying in New Orleans, the give you a unique key for each type of genre of music, access to a fridge to store your food and plenty of room outside and in to explore and vibe. I also appreciated it being only $81 for one person, at the time I stayed, that's pretty good nowadays. The only reason I'm leaving 4 stars is because I am used to having bigger beds and a traditional hotel setup, the bed-bunk seemed smaller than normal, but satisfactory, anf I got a good 7 hours of sleep so I'm not complaining.

Highly recommend this affordable, friendly, quirky, clean hostel! Very easy to make friends here, go out on the town (as there's a street car stop not even a block away), or stay in and just relax at the hostel!

Really chill place. Everybody is there to hang out, and it's easy to make friends from total strangers.

I found this originally many years ago as a Graduate Student looking to save some money as I attended a large conference downtown for my job. Since, I have returned often, as I find the location to be just right for enjoying New Orleans larger than the tourist pull of Bourbon Street. There are multiple coffee shops, breweries and places to visit - and truly the streetcar is RIGHT there. You can walk, ride or run the the bike trail nearby - its just a great location and the staff is nice. Its always a good adventure for sure.

Stayed in a private room - reasonably priced, and everything works. Street parking available - it's a residential neighbourhood so park anywhere. Very close to the streetcar line, and close to the French Quarter.

Got a whole room for myself and has everything I need: shower, coffee, even a piano and a pool. Great lobby that you can work or chill in, friendly staff and visitors. Location is next to a rta station on Canal st as well as near a few great food places (eg. Broad & Banks Seafood), though in NOLA you probably want to spend most of your time closer to downtown. Generally nice place for the price.

You really can't ask for a better hostel for visiting NOLA. Just a minute walk away from the Canal street car that gets you everywhere. The hostel workers are all so kind and the building itself it so unique and beautiful. I've stayed in the dorms and a private room, and both times I've enjoyed my stay and used the showers and towel service, kitchen, fridges, and game room.

It is a party dorm, great for making friends and staying up late so I always appreciate my earplugs and sleeping mask for assured sleep on nights I am not out late in the city.

First time in NOLA, first time staying at a hostel. India House helped make it an incredible trip. Our room was cozy and clean. The common areas were great places to hang out, especially the outdoor/pool area. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and offered up some great food recommendations. I will definitely be back next time I'm in New Orleans

Grazie
Ci ritornerei? Si, certamente.

I loved everything about the India House Hostel. Embodied everything there is about New Orleans in one place.

I had an amazing experience! This place feels like a hidden village. Check-in was easy and Rico was especially welcoming and helped me feel right at home, even for a brief stay.

Private room was cozy with a separate entrance from the main house. This is now my first choice for budget friendly accommodations in NOLA.

The guy checking me in, Dereck, did a fantastic job! However, I wasn't too pleased be woken up at 12:45am by two women (customers) and a male worker. He was flashing his light all over the room pointing at the different beds and they were not even whispering. If he needed to talk or explain anything, it should have been done so on the porch or at the front desk not in our women's only dorm. But mostly im shocked people can check in that late. One of the woman took the bed above me and since they don't make the beds for you, it kept me up. Additionally, the Wifi didn't work well and sometimes it didn't work at all in the women's dorm. At 3am two women came in, left the front door wide open, talking loudly and went to take showers. Your average hostel with a pool.

India house was our first ever hostel experience. It is a massive well run hostel with volunteers that live there who will give you excellent advice on what to do in New Orleans. City park is a highlight that we wouldn’t have done it had they not all suggested it!! Bourbon street is for tourists and rivals nashvilles broadway street. Many types of bands all really good. Frenchmen street is the true New Orleans jazz and it is good! Much quieter than bourbon street and very authentic. You can get around on the streetcars for $3/day and they are a blast to ride so why wouldn’t you!! All in all a great choice for New Orleans and the prices can’t be beat!! Thank you to all the volunteers at India house!! You made our stay spectacular!

Room was basic, but functional and clean. Provided a perfect base for exploring all New Orleans has to offer, location was good and close to the tram with easy access to all attractions. Staff were a real plus giving good advice on what to do, where to go, and what to avoid.
