January 6th marks the beginning of the carnival season in New Orleans. Let's go for more than a month of festivities!
Twelve days after Christmas, on January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany marks the official start of the carnival season in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana. The Joan of Arc parade takes place in the French Quarter and a costume ball, the Twelfth Night Masquerade Ball, is held in the city. In the evening, around 7:00 p.m., the Phunny Phorty Phellows board the St. Charles Avenue streetcar for a colorful parade that's out of this world (for more information and to join them: www.phunnyphortyphellows.com).
