To see the best costumes of the entire Mardi Gras season, Super Sunday in Uptown is definitely recommended.
On the third Sunday in March, the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council holds its parade through the streets of Central City in Uptown. Dressed in their feather and bead costumes, the various tribes gather to sing and dance. Another parade is held from Bayou St. John to the 7th Ward a few weeks later, not to mention other parades that are improvised. To get a taste, check out The New Yorker's documentary on the making of the costumes.
