LAFAYETTE CEMETERY N° 1
Cemetery with several graves with a significant number of remains of victims of war and epidemics.
Less well known than St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, this cemetery is nevertheless similar in size and appearance. Gothic shaped graves and tropical vegetation are prominent. The land occupied by the cemetery was once part of a plantation owned by the Livaudais family, of French origin. There are many graves of European immigrants, often grouped by guild, as well as a significant number of graves containing the remains of victims of the Civil War and yellow fever epidemics.
