METAIRIE CEMETERY
Cemetery with Gothic, Romanesque and Egyptian pyramid style monuments where Louisianans are buried.
This cemetery, built on the site of a former racecourse, is home to over 7,000 graves. Many famous Louisianans are buried here, in magnificent monuments in Gothic, Romanesque or Egyptian pyramid style. One of the most famous is that dedicated to the Louisiana Division of the Army of Tennessee, with two remarkable works by sculptor Alexander Doyle (1857-1922): an equestrian statue of Southern General Albert Sidney Johnston (1803-1862), and a statue of a Confederate soldier about to read a list of the dead.

N'espérez pas voir tous les cimetières de ce coin de la ville en une jour si vous n'êtes motorisé. C'est d'ailleurs ce que font beaucoup de gens et cela semble normal vu la taille des lieux.
