John Davis opened the ballroom in 1817 and ran the theatre in Orleans for more than years. He actively contributed to the radiation of the French opera in America. The sisters of the Holy Family bought the building in 1881 to turn it into school and carry out their teaching mission. They were revendirent in 1964 at Bourbon Orleans Hotel which moved the building while preserving the ballroom.
