The Creole, who adored music, dance and theatre, loved to go to the Opera. We also used to give balls, especially those of Tuesday Gras, in this great building built in 1859. All around had installed shops selling accessories for the show: perruquiers, tailors, masks… When in 1919 a fire devastated Opera, Lyle Saxon wrote that "the heart of the French Quarter stopped beating". At the same location there is now a hotel.
