Edgar Degas, the grandfather of the famous Impressionist painter, built this residence in 1801. Five years later, the Bank of Louisiana bought her and added the initials B and L on the balcony. In 1819, the bank closed and sold the building to Martin Gordon and became a place of sompteuses receptions and celebrations. Mr. Gordon went bankrupt and the building was auctioned to Judge Alonzo Murphy. It's now one of the most Famous restaurants in New Orleans, the Brennan's.
