MRS. JOHN'S LEGACY
Elevated cottage in New Orleans considered a haunted house by the Mrs. John family according to guidebooks.
This elevated cottage dates from 1788 and is the oldest monument in the neighborhood along with the Ursuline Convent. Others believe it was built in 1726 and as such is the oldest building in the Mississippi Valley. It is the best historical demonstration of the architecture of the time. George Washington Cable made it famous in his novel Tite Poulette, which tells the story of how a "quadrone" mistress used up all the inheritance of her white lover, the father of her children. Many guidebooks say the house is haunted by this family.
