THE NATIONAL WWII MUSEUM
Museum presenting the American air fleet through a multitude of documents, original pieces and testimonies.
This museum celebrates the landing of the Allies on the French coast and more generally the history of the Second World War. It is located in New Orleans because the famous Higgins Boats, known for their ramps that lowered to drop soldiers on the beaches, were built in Louisiana. The site is divided into several buildings and it takes a good half-day to walk around it. The walk-through with its staging and re-enactment of the Allied conquest of Berlin, Road to Berlin, can take an hour; the submarine dive, Final Mission: USS Tang Submarine Experience (US$7 extra), where you can put yourself in the shoes of one of the sailors aboard the famous ship that sank on October 25, 1944 after torpedoing 33 enemy aircraft, lasts for 20 minutes; and allow 45 minutes for the 4D film with Tom Hanks, Beyond All Boundaries (US$7 extra). The museum goes into detail about the Pacific landing, the American air fleet, through a multitude of documents, original pieces and testimonies. It is the only museum in the United States dedicated to this war. Born in 2000, elected number 1 attraction in Louisiana and number 4 in the country, this museum will fascinate, educate and entertain young and old alike with its collections. It is always interesting to look at the history treated from a point of view that is not French and to take the measure of the patriotism that inhabits the American people.
