PRIORY OF SAINT-CROIX DE LAVOÛTE-CHILHAC
This beautiful building sits on the peninsula surrounded by the Allier River.
This beautiful building sits on the peninsula surrounded by the Allier River. Although it is not open to the public, the view from the outside is definitely worth a visit. It is to Odilon de Mercœur, abbot of Cluny from 994, that we owe the foundation of the first priory. A fortified enclosure, of which some remains remain, was built in the 14th century. The Sainte-Croix church was rebuilt a century later. The conventual buildings were rebuilt in the 18th century.
